Doug Holt with River Country 96.7 will be broadcasting live from the NEDC building on Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to stop by to promote your upcoming community event.

Jackson County Library presents Miss Sally's Story Time and "Personal Picasso" arts & crafts time Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. On Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m., Jacksonport's Discovery Hour "Civil War Soldier" offers a little history with some fun thrown in. On Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m., Time for Teens to paint the dumpster! Led by Liz Jones and Tim Watson, send teens to the library to express themselves in paint.

Friday at 6:30 p.m. – Captain Tom Stallings: Steamboat Captain on the White River in the campground
Saturday at 1:30 p.m. – Leaf Collage in the picnic area
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. – Backyard Birds in the picnic area
Saturday at 6:30 p.m. – Flags of the Confederacy in the campground
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. – Danger Bingo in the picnic area
Sunday at 3:30 p.m. – Habitat Collage in the picnic area
Last Call – Job Fair Booths: The Newport Economic Development Commission is putting out a last call for booths at this year’s Job Fair. To date 16 companies and organizations have reserved space for the event. The Job Fair will be held Thursday, July 16 and will run from noon until 5 p.m. If you anticipate needing new employees between now and the end of the year, the Newport Job Fair is the place to find them. Each year we’ve averaged in excess of 200 job applicants coming through the door. Please reserve your spot no later than noon, Wednesday, July 8. Set-up for vendors is from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. on the day of the fair. Spaces are reserved on a first come first reserved basis. To reserve a spot, please call 523-1055.
The Portfest Two-Person Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 25 at Village Creek Golf Course. The scramble will feature 9 holes in the morning and 18 holes after lunch. Cost is $55 per person or $110 per twosome in advance, or $65 per person if signing up the day of the tournament by 10 a.m. Great cash prizes and a hole in one contest for a new golf cart. Entry forms are available at the Chamber.
The Iron Mountain Regional Arts Council is sponsoring their popular Photo Contest and Show. The show is open to all ages and ribbons will be awarded to the winning photographers. There is no charge for entering a photo. All entries will be displayed in the Newport Business and Resource Center in downtown Newport for the public to enjoy. The photos can be of any subject matter such as people, pets, landscapes, flowers, etc. A special category this year will be “Life in Jackson County.” This can be of anything in and around our area. All entries must be no smaller than 4x6 inches and no larger than 8x10 inches. In order to be properly presented and judged all entries should be either matted or framed. Only one entry per person can be accepted. All photos must be turned in to the Chamber of Commerce offices at the Newport Business Resource Center building before noon on Friday, July 24. There will be a planned reception, open to the public, from 4 to 6p.m. on Monday, July 27 for the public to view the photos and see the contest winners. The photos will remain on display for 2 weeks following the reception. Dig out your favorite photo and join in the fun.
