"In Newport and Jackson County the White River remained at its highest in several years as excess water from Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes, both of which flow into the White, had to be released over the weekend. With both the Mississippi and Arkansas rivers at high levels, there is no place for the White and its tributaries to drain into, and that is one of the major causes of the flooding that is occurring along its length, officials say.
